Extension of the Mosque
The Extension of the Mosque
Since the number of Muslims in Dublin has multiplied a few times in recent years, the mosque facilities have become too small to cater for the ever increasing number of people, especially on Fridays. At present, and because of the shortage of spaces on Fridays, many people pray outside the mosque. This happens sometimes in cold and wet weather conditions. This situation has prompted the Administration of the Islamic Foundation of Ireland to consider extending the mosque. Plans were prepared and an application for planning permission was made to the Dublin City Council. Al-Hamdullilah, our application for planning permission was approved on 06/06/2002.
The Proposed Extension
The proposed extension includes building a second floor on the adjacent building to the main Mosque which will be linked to the balcony in the main Mosque. The current men's toilets and Wudu facilities will be demolished and new larger facilities built. New Wudu facilities will be built for the ladies on the top floor. There will be a larger entrance to the Mosque and Wudu area. The second floor to be built on the Madrasah and ladies area will provide an additional area for prayer on Fridays and for educational and social activities on other days. The new extension will provide spaces for approximately 350 additional worshippers.

Fund-raising Campaign
A fund-raising committee was formed, and an appeal to the community was made. So, far around €419 192 (october 2007) was collected. We are still hopeful that we will – insha' Allah – collect more from the local community; however, since the Muslim community in Ireland is small and its resources limited we request all Muslims worldwide to help. We appreciate all contributions regardless of their sizes. We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'la to accept from those who donate, and to give them the reward promised by the Prophet (salla Allahu alaihi wasallam) in the Hadith: “Whoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah even if it is like a nest which a bird builds for its eggs, Allah will build for him/her a house in Paradise.”
We need to collect more to start the extension.
