About the Islamic Foundation of Ireland

The Islamic Foundation of Ireland was formed in 1959 by Muslim students. The society is registered as a Friendly Society and as a charitable organization. The Society established the first mosque in Ireland in 1976. It also helped to establish mosques in other cities in Ireland. The headquarters of the Foundation is currently at the Dublin Mosque and Islamic Centre, 163 South Circular Road, Dublin 8. The Islamic Foundation of Ireland has been the official representative of Muslims in Ireland since its inception. It looks after the religious, educational and social needs of Muslims in Ireland.

Membership

  • An applicant to the I.F.I ordinary membership must be 18 years old or over.

  • Application for membership must be made by filling the original application form obtainable from the offices of I.F.I photocopies are not acceptable.

  • The applicant him/herself must sign the application form in the presence of an I.F.I Official. The proposer and seconder must also sign.

  • The Proposer and seconder must be registered members of the society.

  • Deadline for Nominations for Offices within the I.F.I.

    • Nominations for the posts of Majlis Member/Yearly Trustee must be made one week before the date of the meeting in which elections for the above posts shall take place. 

    • Nominations will be closed seven days prior to the meeting (at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the week corresponding to that on which the meeting will be held).

    • If there are only six nominations for the Majlis, then those nominated will be deemed elected. 

    • If less then six people are nominated, those nominated will be deemed elected, and nominations and elections may take place during the meeting for the remaining posts completing the Number of those elected to seven.

    • For the post of Yearly Trustee if one person only is nominated, he will be deemed elected, and if no one was nominated, nominations and elections for the post may take place during the meeting.
